BCN is a privately held technology service provider founded in 1994. The company leverages its strategic partnerships with more than 75 wholesale network providers to deliver a broad range of technology solutions to more than 25,000 businesses nationwide. BCN goes to market exclusively through a nationwide network of thousands of sales partners and is recognized as a leading service provider among colleagues, analysts and industry media.

Challenge
In 2004, on the heels of several acquisitions, rapid growth and product expansion, BCN needed a flexible and scalable back-office solution to streamline operations, customer support and billing processes. At the time, most telecom companies used multiple back-end systems to facilitate such functions. CEO Richard Boudria and his team were looking for a strategic partner to customize an all-inclusive platform that employees in every department could access using a web portal. They found one in Precision’s Scott Trefz, a software engineer and telecom veteran.

“We wanted to collaborate with a similarly forward-looking operations and billing expert, and Precision and Scott filled the bill,” explained Mr. Boudria. “I had seen him in action when he worked for a service provider before starting his own company. I respected his work a great deal. After our initial meeting, it wasn’t long before we struck a partnership and started developing a solution to meet our needs.”

Solution
Trefz and his team went to work on developing a solution. In a matter of weeks, they delivered an all-inclusive platform to meet BCN Telecom’s current and future needs. The solution enabled BCN personnel to track critical business information, automate and manage workflow, provide accurate and timely invoicing, and supply sales teams with tools to fuel growth.

The solution, now Precision’s premier product offering called the Telecommunications BackOffice Solution (TBS), has since become an integral part of BCN’s business. And for the last 13 years, the two companies have collaborated to add new modules and features to meet BCN’s evolving needs as it continues to scale and add solutions to its portfolio.

Indeed, Precision’s developers often make product updates based on input from BCN’s staff. “Scott and his team continuously tweak the system and release updates on a monthly basis,” said Andrew Rosen, vice president, billing and IT services for BCN Telecom. “We also hold weekly meetings to discuss the solution and talk through possible enhancements which have really paid off for us. The Precision team is innovative and agile, and always has our success uppermost on their minds. I hesitate to call Precision a vendor. In practice, the company is a strategic partner with a dedicated team that focuses on our working relationship as much as the technology. That’s rare in our experience, and valued greatly.”
